Villa College has demonstrated a strong commitment to lifelong learning by hosting a range of vocational training events open to the general public in 2023. These events encompassed both ad-hoc and programmed formats, catering to various segments of the population, including unemployed individuals, working professionals, students, and vulnerable groups.
The college organized several ad-hoc vocational training sessions that were tailored to the specific needs of different sectors, with a focus on skill development and employability. One of the notable initiatives was the Phase II of Skills for a Resilient Workforce (11 May 2022 - 11 November 2023), an extensive government and World Bank-supported program. This initiative aimed to provide vocational training to unemployed youth under 35, with courses aligned to National Competency Standards. Participants were awarded Level 3 National Certificates upon completion of the courses. Training areas included: Housekeeping, Cashiering, Tour Guiding, Airport Representative Services, and Water Sports. The project provided stipends to participants, further incentivizing skill development for young professionals and ensuring greater employability.
Another impactful ad-hoc program was the Maldives Covid-19 Income Support Project (27 April 2022 - 31 December 2022), which was part of the upskilling and training effort for individuals financially affected by the pandemic.
In addition to the ad-hoc initiatives, Villa College conducted regular, scheduled vocational training events aimed at various groups, including students, professionals, and public sector employees. These programmed events included short courses and executive education programs, ensuring consistent opportunities for skill enhancement throughout the year.
