BSC (HONS) ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance is a University of the West of England programme that is designed to further develop students with a keen understanding and knowledge in the field of accounting. This is a professionally-oriented programme with a high level of accreditation to support exemption from professional examinations. Students will be thoroughly grounded in the knowledge and applications of accounting theories and practice focusing on financial accounting, management accounting and financial management.

The main focus of this programme will be on the application of knowledge in a real-world context, incorporating consideration of the advance in digital technologies, sustainability, ethical and regulatory developments in the changing business environment. Moreover, it also focuses on developing students as strategic decision makers, able to synthesise technical and theoretical knowledge and apply their leaning to drive business performance, resolve financial problems and work successfully in a collaborative and multicultural business environment. The Bloomberg Trading Suite gives access to the industry standard financial database for research and investment decision making. MSC ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

MSc Accounting and Finance is a programme from the University of the West of England, which is an intensive, academically demanding and applied programme that critically evaluates and synthesises current academic concepts, theories and research to address key issues in Accounting and Financial Management (AFM). The programme aims to produce students who are fully aware of the current practices in the field of AFM, and equipping them with specialist analytical skills and knowledge to take advantage of opportunities and minimise threats within the complex real-world environment. It also enables students to develop purposefully and refine their own comprehensive ‘toolbox’ of AFM techniques and encouraging them to practice the application of such tools. Moreover, the programme looks to facilitate students in the development of the deeper subject specific knowledge and skills in applied settings. Through this programme, students will develop problem-solving and decision-making skills and judgement in the field of AFM. Setting in place an approach to life-long learning and the acquisition of skills which will enable them to apply a structured and reflective approach to both their personal development and their contribution to society.

MSC ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE - QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS ROUTE

This award aims to provide an opportunity for graduates, and experienced practitioners in the field of accounting and finance to deepen and broaden their knowledge and skills. Depth will be achieved by the detailed exploration of aspects of financial strategy and accounting, especially by the specialist knowledge that gained in the area of the dissertation. Breadth will be achieved by viewing accounting and financial management within its historical, social and organisational contexts and by encouraging the adoption of a critical, questioning approach to conventional ‘first degree’ protocols.

The programme is accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). On successful completion of the programme, Maldivian graduates are eligible for exemption from a range of ACCA and CIMA professional examination papers.

ACCA qualified students may apply for exemptions entry equivalent to 105 credits, only requiring 3 modules for the award of MSc Accounting and Finance - Research Methods in Accounting and Finance, Dissertation-Accounting and Finance and Contemporary Issues in Accounting and Finance.
