An institute surely will not reach their goals without the dedication and hard work of their staff. Especially an educational Institute like Villa College, which has climbed to the top of the Maldivian Education charts in terms of both quality and quantity.

I am a staff working in Villa College for the past year and I can proudly and confidently say that being given the opportunity to work at this well-known institute has been the best start to my working career. From the day I stepped into this college as a staff till today, I’ve experienced lots of situations, achievements and events where I have played a vital role in the further progression of this institute and those are things which most of my colleagues from school only dreamt of having.

As an institute of high-quality education, every staff of here communicates and contacts a huge part of the country’s academic population. Meeting different types of people as I work here, have opened my eyes to my very own society which I honestly thought I knew all about before I started my work here. I’ve come across different people with unique backgrounds and personalities which has taught me a lot of life lessons and especially how to deal with different types of people.

Patience is something everyone has, just different levels of it. Some can be patient for a short while others can be patient for a long time. Here in Villa College I face all kinds of people and greeting them with the same smiling face and the beautiful salaam of Islam (Assalaamu Alaikum), no matter how bad or good the person reacts to me, has taught me a lot of patience. Many people come in steaming due to several reasons but it always is a joy when you’re able to console that person and come up with a feasible solution to the issue he/she is facing. People say that one will not receive the respect he doesn’t give and the people coming into Villa College is a sole example of it. Everyone whom I greet with respect and smiles often gifts it back to me after their requests are attended and processed.

The staff in Villa College is so friendly with each other and are really coordinated unlike other work environments which my friends experience. Even the highest-level staff of the college greet with smiles and it gives me happiness knowing that my senior staff do not think too highly of themselves but treat everyone in a humble and humane manner which I feel everyone should receive in their work environments and is essential for their growth. Moreover, staff in the same department are especially very helpful and supports each other in their daily endeavors and sudden emergencies. These ethics of my co-workers make my already flexible work here feel even less stressful.

There are several recreational activities held out for the staff to increase the motivation of staff. These include futsal tournaments for both men and women staff, treasure hunts, annual staff trips filled with recreational and team building activities and games, karaoke night and Qur’an competitions. I, myself took part in many of these activities and tournaments. Moreover, awards are given to staff at the celebration of the College’s anniversary and staff meetings. These include the VC Diamond Award of Excellence for Quality, VC Staff Excellence Awards, Employee of the Year Award and Employee of the Month Award every month. These keep us hugely motivated to work even harder and achieve our goals.

Villa College also provides discounts for their own staff if they are taking part in any courses offered. The discounts increase with each passing year a staff works here. In my opinion, this is one of the main reasons why many adolescents join the working force of the institution and remains working here even after their course has ended. It’s pleasing to know the support by seniors to staff like me who are trying to pursue an education, especially if it’s from Villa College.

The environment here has been a huge part of the reason why my experience here in Villa College has so far been a great one. Filled with trees and ponds, which are well maintained by gardeners, have been the most amazing scene when exiting the office after a stressful day at work. Furthermore, I am really proud that institute has been driving strong in being eco-friendly by installing solar panels for power supply throughout the main college buildings and banning of single-use plastic throughout all campuses and learning centers. The College is also providing non-plastic bottles to the students and staff to support and encourage the preservation of our environments from plastic and switching to alternatives.

As a staff, I am really proud to tell my friends about the opportunities and events in Villa College. From the teamwork in grand convocations to the courses recognized internationally which are taught by the cream of the cream (best) lecturers from around the country and world, the institution has been a reason to brag and lure people to pursue their education or careers from Villa College.

For starters or the experienced, Villa College is surely one of the best places to work in. The place is an eye opener for the youngsters looking to start their career and a place to develop themselves further for everyone. I am loving the work I am doing here and the support I am getting from my co-workers. Honestly, I would love to keep working here till I get my own business started up after pursuing my education and getting some amazing work experience from this remarkable institution. Looking forward to seeing new young faces loving the work in Villa College like myself, in the future.
