The Discover Hospitality programme is sponsored by the Universal Foundation and run in collaboration with Villa College. The main objective of this programme is to train young people interested in working in the tourism sector and provide opportunities for such young people to advance in this sector.
The main objective of this programme is to train young people interested in working in the tourism sector and provide opportunities for such young people to advance in this sector. More than 80 percent of the students who completed the course are in various jobs. Many of these students are working in the tourism sector.
The Certificate 3 in Hospitality course is a 4-month course. The theory classes are conducted at Villa College's Male' Campus while the practical experience is gained at Universal Resorts. Students will be trained in the front office, housekeeping and food and beverage services departments. An allowance of MVR 3000/- per month will be paid to the student by the resort while the student is undergoing training.
At a special ceremony held at the Manhattan Business Hotel, on the 15th of August , 2023, The 37 graduates of the 4th batch of the Discover Hospitality Programme received certificates and the 5th batch of students commenced their studies and training. The Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdullah Maumoon was the chief guest at the ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by Universal Enterprises Chairman Mohamed Umar Manik, Villa College Rector Dr. Ahmed Anwar, along with other Universal Enterprises officials, Universal Resorts General Managers, Villa College officials and parents of the participants.
