The participation of Villa College students in the South Asia Regional Rounds of the FDI Moot
at Lloyd Law College, India, marks a significant achievement for both the students and the
institution. As one of the premier platforms for investor-State arbitration, the FDI Moot provides
law students with an invaluable opportunity to gain practical experience in the evolving fields of
arbitration and investment law.
Representing Villa College, the team comprised of Mariyam Malsaa Ahmed, Fathimath Hoona
Haneef, and Aishath Anaan Binthi Ashraf, from the Bachelor of Shariah and Law (BSL) and
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programs, began their rigorous training journey in June. This involved
an in-depth analysis of the moot problem, the development of strategic legal arguments, and
continuous refinement of their oral advocacy skills. Their preparation culminated in a compelling
performance at the regional rounds, where they competed against teams from both local and
international institutions.
The feedback from experienced arbitrators was instrumental in helping the students enhance their
arguments and overall performance. This engagement not only sharpened their legal acumen but
also fostered valuable interactions with academics and practitioners from around the globe,
broadening their perspective on international arbitration.
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedicated guidance of the Maldives
Moot Court Society (MMCS) coaching pool, including Vineela Kottapali, Saranya Ravindran,
Amish Abdullah from Villa College, Suma Ilyas, and Zayan Shareef. Their unwavering support,
combined with the commitment of the Faculty of Shariah and Law at Villa College, has played a
crucial role in preparing the students to excel on this international platform.
Villa College remains committed to providing its students with opportunities that not only
challenge them but also prepare them for the complexities of global legal practice. The success
of this team at the FDI Moot serves as a testament to the quality of legal education at Villa
College and the institution's dedication to fostering the next generation of legal professionals.
