The Bachelor of Arts in Banking and Finance programme is aimed at students who wish to build a career path in the banking and finance sector. The programme covers a broad range of banking and finance topics contextualized to the Maldivian context.
The programme is designed to align with the modern financial markets, and incorporates topics such as financial markets and institutions, risk management, credit management, corporate finance, ethics and governance in banking, econometrics, Islamic banking and finance, retail banking, investment banking, data management, and international trade and finance. The programme also develops students’ self-confidence, innovative skills and self-reliance, thereby enabling them to work independently. This programme is tailored for working practitioners and future professionals alike.
General Entry Criteria
2 passes in A Level/HSC (At GCE A/L, a pass is considered E and above. HSC pass is considered C and above.) OR
Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field OR
Attainment of a Level 4 Foundation Study Program approved for the specific Diploma program.
Alternative Entry Criteria
Completion of a Level 4 qualification (unrelated), and successful completion of an MQA-approved University Preparation Program OR
20 years old, completion of secondary school, 2 years of relevant work experience, and successful completion of an MQA-approved University Preparation Program

The broader goals of the programme are as follows:
To demonstrate broad and integrated knowledge of the theoretical and professional disciplines in banking and finance in the Maldives.
To demonstrate a critical understanding of a selection of the principal theories, principles, concepts and terminology in the area of banking and finance.
To relate students’ banking knowledge to a range of practical banking applications and use a range of banking skills and advanced techniques to undertake operations in the banking and finance sector.
To undertake critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of ideas, concepts and information to address issues arising in banking and finance operations.
To understand the basic tenets of academic and social principles for a successful career in banking and finance.
To equip students with the specialised skills required to recognise and analyse problems related to banking and finance, and to take appropriate decisions using suitable tools and techniques.
To work collaboratively with others to solve problems in a range of professional-level contexts by applying relevant theories and techniques.
To apply high standards of conduct and ethical values in engaging in the banking and finance sector
Upon successful completion of this programme participants will be able to:
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the banking structure and functions in the financial system, the regulatory and legal requirements, bank services, credit and lending, risk management and the importance of conduct and professionalism in banking.
Demonstrate a broad and integrated understanding of how to apply the concepts and tools in banking in the areas of corporate finance, credit management, retail banking, bank strategy, management in banking, international trade and finance, in solving problems in the key areas of banking.
Demonstrate a broad and integrated understanding of how to apply concepts and tools in banking in the areas of contemporary issues faced in the banking industry, risks involved in bank management and the ethics followed in banking and governance to solve problems in the key areas.
Demonstrate research skills and data analysis by applying statistical and analytical tools, and enable students to write research projects/reports in the related field by using their knowledge and skills.
Apply the concepts and tools in accounting and finance and produce/analyse and interpret financial statements/reports, and do various extensive accounting calculus.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of cross-border risk management and how different products and contracts are tailored in the international trade market in accordance with international rules and regulations.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of information systems management in banking and apply the theories and concepts by using relevant knowledge and skills.
Apply the fundamental concepts of micro-macroeconomics and econometrics by means of numerical and graphical tools.
Apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate self-reliance, well-developed judgment, adaptability and responsibility as a practitioner or learner in the field of banking and finance.
Attain independent learning skills and enthusiasm for the field.
Enhance students’ employability as banking professionals.
