The Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) programme aims to develop reflective primary teachers who are skilled in the key learning areas of the Maldives National Curriculum, and are motivated and capable of teaching the values and skills specified in the national primary curriculum. This programme prepares graduates to teach and implement the new national curriculum in primary grades. The main focus is on developing practitioners to provide value-based education combined with the enduring skills and competencies outlined in the national curriculum which are also in accordance with 21st-century skills. Paramount importance is given to widening graduates’ knowledge and skills in English, Mathematics and Science. The programme provides extensive professional experience opportunities through strong teaching workshop components.
General Entry Criteria
2 passes in A Level/HSC (At GCE A/L, a pass is considered E and above. HSC pass is considered C and above) OR
Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field OR
Attainment of Level 4 Foundation Study Programme approved for the specific Diploma programme.
Alternative Entry Criteria
Completion of a Level 4 qualification (unrelated), and successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation ProgramOR
20 years old, completion of secondary school, 2 years of relevant work experience, and successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation Program

It embeds inquiry-based reflective practices to prepare teachers for environments where there is a degree of unpredictability. The general objectives are:
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of main theories, concepts and principles of education, curriculum and pedagogy; and integrate them into the teaching environment.
- Apply specialised skills and practices in professional contexts to teaching environments where there is a degree of unpredictability.
- Use professional-level insights to evaluate and synthesize solutions to address issues related to primary teaching
- Use a range of skills in language, mathematics, communication and ICT and specialized skills in the subject area for strengthening established practices
- Work autonomously to undertake responsibilities at the professional level in teaching and leadership of primary schools, in an ethical manner
