Certificate 3 in Marine Science provides a unique learning experience to participants through a combination of academic knowledge coupled with practical field skills that are highly valued and recognised by professional bodies in the field of marine science, diving and water sports. Students practice their skills and gain field experience in the peerless marine environment of the Maldives. The development of a professional attitude is equally important as skills and knowledge and this comprehensive program includes a number of Core Employment Skills to develop a professional attitude and increase confidence and readiness for the workforce. As part of the Core Employment Skills module, the students are required to complete daily tasks (Practical Applications) during their training. The team tasks involve keeping the classrooms & student areas clean, taking care of training equipment and other routine chores at a marine science, diving or water sports center. Each day, a different student from the class is assigned as Team Leader, and all students are continuously appraised for teamwork, leadership & planning and organising abilities. In addition to the three Core Modules common among all students [Basic English, Essential Mathematics, Essentials of Marine Science]; students are given the opportunity to choose one Elective from Marine Conservation, Marine Recreation [Diving] or Aquatic Recreation [Water Sports], according to their interests. Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates are awarded a Certificate III in Marine Science as well as professional certificates from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors [PADI], Verband Deutscher Wassersport Schulen (VDWS) or Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA).
